Karen Alpert Entous: “I have had the good fortune to be an artist. My curiosity has been a humbling experience finding new ways to see, think, feel and imagine.”

Carol Schindelheim: “Fueled by a desire to seize the fleeting essence of now, my artistry strives to go beyond simple depiction. The pulse and rhythm of life, the ‘action’ over the ‘object,’ is where I find my true artistic exhilaration.”

Carla M. Simonian: “My art is an endless journey fueling emotional and creative energy that nurtures my soul; seeking a connection to the viewer’s innermost passion of their self-discovery.”

Susan Spector: “We are more than what others see. We are happy, we are sad. We are seething, we are at peace. I look beyond the obvious to feel and then abstract what a person is sharing with me.”

Joi Wilson: “One’s joy of art can only grow, it can never diminish because it is eternal. I like to use bold colors in my work and paint with sensitivity to detail, choosing subjects with a story behind them; a special meaning that touches people’s hearts.”

Joan Greenwald –  “Three life endeavors flow into my artwork: music, tai chi and painting. Whereas, we hear music’s vibrations and radiate tai chi’s, everything we see emerges from light vibrations. Color expresses light's invisible spirit. It’s an honor to present this color spirit through the flow of our most essential component — water.”

Lynne Schroeder –  “I am ever grateful that I have grown up in a world that has allowed me to merge two creative talents; music and art. I imagine, dream and create visions in a very personal way, expanding towards an awareness of the world around me. I draw from life’s experiences as I am inspired by the energy and spirit of humans and their surroundings. My colors are bold and my drawings are powerful. They are pulled from the deepest layer of my soul and flow onto the page.”

Dee Stone – “The beauty I see in people and nature inspire my creativity. When I am painting I lose myself in my work, I feel at peace and my creativity flows.”

“Art Conversation”, curated by Helen Kim, showcased the artwork of creative and diverse artists from the Artist Co-op 7: Abira Breskal, Selina Cheng, Judy Dekel, Guilda Daniel-Elias and Caren J. Gafni.

Abira Breskal – “I always come back to the figure and these are quickly observed and drawn, capturing the essence.”

Selina Cheng – “My paintings express my love of adventure and nature. To me every painting is an exciting journey, it transports me to places where I am free to experiment and create images with vibrant colors and bold strokes.”

Judy Dekel – “When I look around me and take in the natural elements that are always in my viewpoint, I see color, form, line, light and much more. This is what influences my artwork more than all else, and finds its way into the work that I do.”

Guilda Daniel Elias – “The creative process is mentally and emotionally fulfilling and experiencing beauty is equally gratifying.”

Caren J. Gafni – “My paintings are inspired by nature through igniting and calming the viewer’s senses.”

This was the first collaboration between the Schomburg Gallery and Artist Co-op 7, a group of artists who believe that education never stops and strive to create an environment propitious for creativity.

A vibrant and dynamic art exhibit to welcome in the spring. Splash of Spring - A Creative Vision is comprised of works on canvas and paper by artists Joy Merzer Freedman, Ann Gerstenfeld, Jill E. Gluck, Paula Hatton, Rachelle Mark, Debbi Saunders, Lynne Schroeder and Dee Stone.

For Joy Merzer Freedman, working with watercolor is fresh and spontaneous, a meditation where paint and water lead the way. Painting in watercolor allows Ann Gerstenfeld to experiment with intertwining color, texture, ink and line. Jill Gluck’s paintings reflect the richness of her experiences traveling around the world. Paula Hatton’s paintings are colorful and playful. Rachelle Mark’s works use color to convey movement, nature, and feelings of peace. A bold use of color is used in Debbi Saunders’ still life and city life paintings. Lynne Schroeder’s artwork reflects the rhythmic energy of her life. Dee Stone’s art is for the ‘serious unserious viewer’.

The eight artists showing together belong to Artist Co-op 7, a group of forty-eight who believe that education never stops, and that growth as an artist is predicated on stretching the boundaries of the known.
